Do you need the infant insert? No. If you choose to use the newborn insert it does provide extra support for the baby. It is designed to give babies the swaddling feeling that some newborns prefer.

The 4moms swings and bouncers do not require this infant insert to be safe. It’s intended to make them more comfortable.
How long can a newborn be in a mamaRoo?
The mamaRoo® infant swing is intended for use from birth until your little one is 6 months old, or reaches the maximum weight limit of 25 pounds, or can sit up unassisted, or attempts to climb out, whichever comes first.
How long do you use the Doona newborn insert?
